Last Thursday evening, which coincidentally was also Cinco De Mayo, the folks at Hard Times Press teamed up with the HIV Vaccine Trials Unit as well as the lovely and talented Debora Spencer, to bring you another installment in the on going “Art + Action = Awareness” series. Held at Debora Spencer’s studio in the historic 619 Western Building (slated for demolition in the fall in preparation for work on the viaduct), and on the night that Pioneer Square normally has its monthly artwalk, this event attracted quite a diverse and colorful crowd.
There was a wide variety of art on display at the event. A live body painting installation, wearable art in the form of hats and hairclips, a display of technicolor poster prints from the Sin On Heels Tour (featuring local celebutantes Sydni Deveraux and Fuchsia Foxx among others), and a huge interactive graffiti wall, all added to the events unique vibe. Hard Times alumni, DJ’s L.A. Kendall, Skiddle, JT Hooker and Tony Burns chipped in to lend their distinctive musical perspectives to the evenings soundtrack.
The crowd was primed and eagerly interacting, whether it be in the form of their own costume, or through contributing to the graffiti wall. Hundreds of the current issue of Hard Times Press were consumed as people filtered in and out of the party. Quite a few party goers adorned themselves with buttons provided by the HIV Vaccine Trials Unit touting “I Love Anal“. It was quite a party to behold! Mark your calendars for June, as that is when the next issue is slated to be released and you can bet there’ll be more parties and partnerships from Hard Times Press!
