I know I”m risking the ire of all the MadonnaPhiles out there, (and they are legion) but I really, really dislike her debut song/video “Give Me All Your Luvin'” from her new album “MDNA” which premiered today. It’s trite and dull and stupid and it follows the desperate Madonna trend of doing anything and everything to hold on to her fans and youth: Appropriate what’s currently hot and trending in pop music; reference your own history; hire some currently young/hot recording artists for street cred, (in this case, M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj); rinse and repeat.
And, Katy Perry should sue…”Give Me All Your Luvin'” is stylistically right out of the Perry songbook, not to mention the look and design of the video itself. Rather ironic coming from the Material One after she’s recently sniped about Lady Gaga ripping her off, (which may or may not have been a tongue in cheek joke.)
“Luvin'” would have been considered a cute, but slight Madonna song….in 1985. It just seems sad now.
