Two huge options to Do Good on Saturday, September 22, 2012.
The Big One is the annual Seattle AIDS Walk which starts and ends at Volunteer Park Saturday morning from 9am to 1pm. And, this year there are some changes to the Walk which normally only raises funds for Lifelong AIDS Alliance…now you can give to other non-profits that also benefit the fight against HIV/AIDS like Gay City Health Project and Rosehedge/Multi-faith.
Event: Seattle AIDS Walk
Date: Saturday, September 22
Location: Volunteer Park 1498 E Prospect Street, Seattle
Time: 9:00 am to 1:00 pmLifelong AIDS Alliance is proud to host the Seattle AIDS Walkon Saturday, September 22 at Volunteer Park in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. The park will open at 9:00 a.m. for donation drop off and t-shirt pick-up and the official stage program will commence at 9:30 a.m. The AIDS Walkroute is a 5K loop through Capitol Hill. The AIDS Walk is immediately followed by an after party that includes music, snacks, and celebration.
The Seattle AIDS Walk is the Pacific Northwest’s largest annual HIV/AIDS fundraiser, with all funds supporting Lifelong and partnering community service organizations. Through the AIDS Walk, we are able to educate the community and raise awareness about the continued importance of fighting HIV and AIDS.
And, it also should be mentioned that due to the AIDS Walk, many streets on Capitol Hill will be closed to traffic until 1pm, so plan accordingly!
If that wasn’t enough Community Involvement and Awareness for you, there’s also a big Marriage Equality Fundraiser happening at multiple locations. It became public knowledge a few weeks back that a huge Capitol Hill landlord, Breier-Scheetz had denied a request from a tenant to hold a Marriage Equality fundraiser on the site of one of their buildings. The tenant proceeded to hold the event in their apartment and alerted the media, then Breier-Scheetz proceeded to donate $20,000 to groups OPPOSING Marriage Equality. Outraged tenants and the community at large decided to fight back with the result multiple events are being planned for this Saturday at Breier-Scheetz buildings from 3pm to 7pm.
Breier-Scheetz tenants are holding a coordinated event to match or surpass the donation Capitol Hill landlords Breier-Scheetz Properties gave to the anti-marriage-equality campaign. Join us to raise $20,000 and send a message – Capitol Hill supports marriage equality.
There will be parties at:
The Granada Apartments, 1736 Belmont Ave
The New McDermott Apartments, 1514 Bellevue Ave
If you cannot make it to the party, but want to donate to the cause, please contribute online at: https://secure.qgiv.com/
