The EMP is at it again, folks! This weekend is the Myth & Magic Faire, here to delight all your fantastical dreams!
Beginning Friday July 9, enjoy everything whimsical and fun in the magical worlds. For three days, the EMP will be celebrating fantasy fiction. Did you catch that David Bowie’s Goblin King costume from Labyrinth is already on display? As are the garbs of Cersei and Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones? This weekend only, that beautiful little ongoing fantasy exhibit will spill over into the rest of the EMP. Yay!
Friday night, after the kiddos are in bed, head over to the Sky Church for a drive-in/camp-out style screening of Legend at 9pm, during which all you male-lovers can ogle Tim Curry and a supremely young Tom Cruise. It’s the 30th anniversary of the movie (can you believe it?). So for the regular price of a movie—for non-EMP members—you can re-live the joy and wonder of ’80s fantasy films! Bring your own blankets and pillows and a hot date, because you’re in for a treat.
If you’re savvy enough to get the all-access “wizard pass” to the event ($125, which is a great deal considering admission and events), the Sky Church will also host the Wizard’s Feast on Saturday from 6-8pm. Unlimited drinks! Medieval food guaranteed to be better than Medieval Times! EMP is being pretty hush-hush about the goings-on during the feast, but promises special guests and surprises. Hell, I’d get the Wizard Pass just to be surprised and drink my fill!
As if that isn’t enough, attend the masquerade ball and costume contest directly afterward at 9pm. Magical games and fantasy characters are planned to bewitch you, and you don’t have to wait for the next RenFaire to get dressed up. Hopefully the music is more interesting than flutes and lutes, so dance the night away!
When you’ve woken up from the grog and wine hangover on Sunday, get back to the EMP for the BIGGEST FANTASY FESTIVAL EVER. From the Facebook invite: Enjoy all forms of merriment in this spectacular festival of magic and amusement. Visit the realms of Middle Earth, Hogwarts, Narnia, Westeros, Oz, and many more, plus enjoy activities and games for the whole family, including heroic archery, sword fighting, spell slinging, photo ops, Medieval-inspired crafts, and more.
The schedule of events includes jousting, puppetry, combat demonstrations, kids’ costumes, mythical beasts and how to care for them, face painting, trivia, and more movie screenings! Tasty treats will be offered all day long. More fun than the family can handle from 11-5!
Have fun, kids! Don’t walk out with any curses on ya (those things itch)!
