Like every episode of the longtime, generations-spanning franchise, we’re kicking off the year’s anniversary shindigs with theme music!
Since Alexander Courage’s first few notes of hopefully apprehensive wonder graced the tubes of sci-fi-watching kids in 1966, the music of one of the most important fandoms in history has kept young and old enthralled with every story. It’s no secret that music can make or break a scene; the wrong notes can change an acted moment from fear to joy, from power to humor, or from love to anger. To this day, hearing “Where No One Has Gone Before” can inspire the most stoic to shed a tear out of nostalgia or imagination. (And who doesn’t love a good ol’ “fight music” laugh?)
Seattle Theater Group is proud to present Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage. At 8pm on this Friday, April 8th, release yourself from ECCC activities for a moment to listen to the delightful orchestral performance of some of the best from the final frontier. Says the press release:
The event features an impressive live symphony orchestra performing the franchise’s groundbreaking musical achievements while the most iconic Star Trek film and television footage is simultaneously beamed in high definition to a 40-foot wide screen…This never-before-seen concert event is perfect for music lovers, filmgoers, science-fiction fans, and anyone looking for an exciting and unique concert experience. The concert features some of the greatest music written for the franchise, including music from Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager and much more.
Soooo…I’m going to assume the Star Trek: Enterprise theme won’t be on the set list. (Can we say, “horrid?”) The concert will be a much-needed kickoff to this year’s Star Trek festivities, because we all know Creation Entertainment won’t be doing its job in Las Vegas later this year. Luckily, Seattle gets it. Pssst…EMP will be premiering a Star Trek exhibit in May. Stay tuned for details!
Like seeing Game of Thrones in IMAX, there’s something to be said for a live experience or better sound quality helping along your already boiling-to-the-surface geek squeeing. Tickets are available through STG.
By the time Friday night rolls around, you might have gone to the Image Expo and had two full days of Emerald City Comic Con. Sit back, relax, and let some beautiful tunes from the greatest thing in sci-fi (besides Doctor Who) flood your soul.
And now, your moment of zen:
