Burien Pride Returns for 2018

Burien Pride 2017 was a huge success and the party will continue for June 2018

Burien, the sleepy little Seattle suburb to the south west has become a major hub for LGBTQ community members seeking more affordable housing and a slower paced lifestyle. As skyrocketing home prices and rents force gay Seattleites not only off the traditional “homohood” of Capitol Hill but even out of the city limits, more and more folks are settling in Burien to buy homes, nest with a new partner or to start a family.

Last year, the LGBTQ people of Burien put on their first Pride and it was such a huge success that they’ve already announced they’re returning for a bigger/better Burien Pride II for 2018. Once again they’ll be centered on Burien Town Square with a designated date of Saturday, June 2nd for the free/all ages event.

More poo down below and expect more info/line up and events announced in weeks/months ahead.

Burien Pride Returns June 2 for Second Annual Celebration

Proceeds to Benefit Burien Pride Scholarship Fund

Burien, Wash. (January 30, 2018) – The second annual Burien Pride celebration will take place in Burien Town Square Park on Saturday June 2, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with FREE admission to the public. All ages are welcome.

More than 2,000 attendees celebrated Burien Pride in its first year alone. The non-profit aims to meet and surpass that excitement in 2018 with new and returning musical acts, artisan crafts, all-ages activities, food vendors, special guests, family programming, and a 21+ Burien Pride Beer Garden sponsored by local brewpub Elliott Bay Brewhouse.

“The support of the community is so vital at this juncture,” said committee member Debra George, a staple in Burien. “We encourage community members, businesses, organizations, and individuals to get involved in Burien Pride however it fits them best – whether that be through active participation volunteering day-of, sponsoring, hosting a booth, or any other contribution.”

“As we grow as an organization in our second year, it’s important that we give back to the community and foster an affirming space where everyone is welcome,” said committee member Sarah Toce. “Regardless of where you’re from, we invite you to join us in celebrating Burien Pride 2018.”

New this year: a portion of all proceeds from Burien Pride will benefit the local community by way of the organization’s newly-formed Burien Pride Scholarship Fund.

A drag show will take place from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., followed by after-parties by nearby participating bars. More information to be disclosed as it becomes available.

Don’t miss out on the fun this year as Burien Pride returns on Saturday, June 2, 2018!

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
