Fans of Teatro Zinzanni’s who mourned the loss of the company’s longtime home on Lower Queen Anne’s Mercer Street can rejoice in the company’s re-opening at “Hollywood and Vine” with a show of the same name. Relax, it’s Hollywood and Vine in Woodinville (who knew!) not in Los Angeles, even though it’s still a bit of a drive for Metro Seattle fans, but I’m betting they’ll head to the Spiegeltent regardless, for the mix of cabaret, circus and vaudeville Teatro ZinZanni is noted for.
Voluptuous, vibrant, vocalist/comedienne Christine Deaver (who co-wrote the wraparound, feather-light script with TZ Co-Director’s Reenie Duff and Andrea Conway) plays 1/3 of The Jersey Shore born Romanelli Sisters who believe they’ll be leaving Atlantic City for that other, better-known Hollywood & Vine. Despite the oafishness of the Woodin Brothers, played as Hillbilly hicks by some of the talented male cast members, the show goes on. The Nouveau/PNW eclectic dinner menu (vegetarian/vegan/pescaterian friendly) plus free-flowing wine and full bar service, definitely offer a good value, especially for holiday and other special occasion celebrations.
Top-lined Deaver has a no-mike needed brassy singing voice and works the audience participation with bawdy charm of a 21st Century Mae West. Several new faces and valuable assets in the current show include clown Mick Holsbeke, Three-time Guinness world record Hula Hoop champion Alesaya Gulevich, Ace Acrobatics performer and America’s Got Talent Semi-Finalist Timber Brown, and Aerialist Giuliana Piolanti. The returning favorites are trapeze artist Ben Wendel, ballet star Ariana Lallone, Chinese pole performer Domitil Aillot, and vocalist Jen Ayers. Wayne Doba’s choreography is glitzy and engaging. And the performance tent in Woodinville that houses the show happily feels familiar, yet a bit more cozy than it was in Seattle.
Teatro Zinzanni’s HOLLYWOOD & VINE runs through April 28, 2019 (Wednesday-Saturday at 7:00 pm, Sundays at 6:00 pm and Select Sunday Matinees at 11:30 am at 14100 NE 145th Street, Woodinville, WA. For reservations and more visit on-line at http://zinzanni.com/seattle .
