It’s nearing completion..Seattle’s first lower income LGBTQ+ senior housing, PRIDE PLACE at 1519 Broadway (next door to Neighbours) is getting closer and closer to the day it can open its doors in the fall of 2023. Which means it’s time for Seattle’s LGBTQ+ seniors to put in their applications.
A longtime dream for community leaders, this mammoth project had been talked about for decades but only started becoming a reality in the last few years with the leadership of GenPride, a non-profit community group serving the needs of Seattle’s growing LGBTQ+ senior population, and Community Roots Housing, who build and run lower income housing in buildings all over Seattle. The new building will also feature a home for GenPride who will have their offices and run a community center for the building and the city in general.
The application window opens on June 1st and GenPride expects the 118 unit building to quickly fill (which raises the question, will they build MORE such buildings if the need is there?) To help people with answers to their questions about PridePlace and the application process, GenPride will be hosting a Pride Place Residency Application Information Workshop on Saturday, May 13th from 2pm to 3:30pm at the Pike and Pine meeting room in the 12th Avenue Arts building at 1620 12th Avenue (just off Pine). There will also be two other workshops in the weeks ahead in the Northgate and Columbia City neighborhoods.

We are thrilled to introduce Pride Place, Seattle’s first affordable and affirming housing project designed for 2SLGBTQIA+ aged 55 years and older. Pride Place apartments, which are managed by our partner, Community Roots Housing, offer below market rents for income-qualified applicants. GenPride will operate a premier LGBTQIA+ Community Center on the ground floor.
We expect that applications for Pride Place apartments will be full within days of applications opening on June 1, 2023.
To ensure our community members are well informed and prepared for the anticipated opening of application dates in early June, we’re hosting a series of Pride Place Residency Application Information Workshops! After signing up, registrants will receive an email confirmation and a link to the application documents for download.
