Our Darling Sarah Rudinoff Has A Big Album Release Party This Friday!

June 27, 2024• byMichael Strangeways
Singer/actress Sarah Rudinoff has a new album out, TOGETHER. Divine Art by Kathryn Rathke

The queen of local multi-hyphenates, (for the record: singer/actress/comedienne/writer/theater maker/realtor/probably some more we’re forgetting) SARAH RUDINOFF has made an album of music celebrating 30 years of amazing collaborations with other terrific Seattle artists, some of them no longer with us (like dear sweet Nick Garrison). That album, TOGETHER is dropping this month and Sarah’s throwing a couple of huge parties to celebrate her amazing career of music and theater.

Show Number One will happen this Friday, June 28th with a follow-up show on Friday, July 26th and both of them happenng at Century Ballroom, 915 East Pine Street on Capitol Hill. Each night will be UNIQUE with its own set of special guests performing with Sarah. Snag tickets (and more info) for either (or both) shows at: https://www.strangertickets.com/events/152779909/sarah-rudinoff-together-record-release-parties

Sarah is beloved by the entire city but she has a very special place in the LGBTQ+ community as a fierce friend and artist. She’s worked with many local gay artists and in many different kinds of very queer productions but she’s definitely remembered by many as the original Yitzhak in the Seattle premiere of “Hedwig & The Angry Inch” at Re-bar with Nick Garrison as Hedwig. It was a legendary production and Sarah and Nick became close friends and collaborators. Sarah has been planning this album for years now and had planned to create a track with Nick but his tragic death in 2022 ended that dream. Happily, Sarah and her production team found a way to include Nick on the album:

“I couldn’t imagine making a collaboration record without Nick. We had talked about recording “Origin of Love” but when he died suddenly, all I thought I had were funky rehearsal recordings of us. Gretta Harley unearthed this complete live show Nick, Chris Jeffries and I did as an opener for our We Are Golden record release in 2009. I hadn’t ever heard it and didn’t know it existed. One of the best gifts I have ever received. I want to share that full live record in the future because it’s stunning to hear Nick again in all his brilliance. (But) for this record, I included our ridiculous “Telephone Medley” with a brilliant band of old friends.”

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
