It’s the 2nd Thursday of the month so it’s time for the Capitol Hill Art Walk when local galleries, shops and bistros display some lovely photos and art, and art lovers prowl the Hill in search of openings and free wine and Trader Joe nibbles. It’s the Thing To Do, this Thursday, June 12 from 5pm to 10ish depending on the closing time for the venue.
Since it’s June, aka Pride Month, there are HOMOcentric artists on display including Joey Veltkamp’s lovely quilted works now on display at Cupcake Royale:
Joey Veltkamp’s debut quilt show will be moving from West Seattle over to Capitol Hill for Pride. Come see the rainbow quilts and queer/feminist flags. As Jen Graves said about its previous incarnation, “The pieces are meant to comfort the afflicted, and they don’t much care about afflicting the comfortable. The entire installation is a safe space that calls out directly to those it means to shelter.” Queers, weirdos, and non-conformists welcome! It’s a celebration!
Also, during the exhibition pick up a special Pride t-shirt and stickers designed by Joey Veltkamp especially for Cupcake Royale.
Gay City Health Project also debuts its annual PORTRAITS OF PRIDE show which has been an Pride event for many years, originally at the former LGBT Center/the Q Arts Council and usually curated by the terrific Cody Blomberg. Cody and a lot of other terrific artists are back for 2014 and I strongly encourage you to drop by to check it out. Mr. Strangeways was on the Q Arts Council “back in the day” and I’m thrilled to see the spirit of it still thrive. Even though they didn’t ask me to submit a portrait….
The one I did 8 years ago was a doozy!
Here’s the poo on the exhibit and all the brilliant artists involved.
