There’s been a recent uptick in the number of crimes on Capitol Hill and the surrounding area, including more muggings and assaults. CHS just reported on a man who got mugged in the Central District after agreeing to meet some dude he met on gay social network/hook-up site Scruff.
If you would like to learn a few moves to defend yourself in a confrontational situation, then there’s a class on Sunday to teach you some moves. (However, we would like to point out, that it’s usually best to just give a mugger/robber whatever they ask for and not fight back…especially if they are displaying a weapon or if there are more than one of them. It’s pretty stupid to get yourself injured or killed over the $32 in your wallet. Fighting back is really only a good idea if you think you could be in physical jeopardy if you DON’T fight back.)
We Need Queer Youth Space and Glitur are teaming up to offer a self-defense class on Sunday, at the Queer Youth Space at 911 E. Pike St. (buzz #202) from noon until 2pm. There are only a few spots left in the class so you need to head over to their Facebook invite and let them know you want to go, if you are interested. There’s nothing on the invite that indicates this is ONLY for Queer Youth…ask them if you’re in doubt.
