It’s the second Thursday of the month so that means it’s time for BLITZ: The Capitol Hill Art Walk and a terrific opportunity to check out the work of local artists at venues all over the Hill.
There’s a couple we definitely think you should check out…our friend Cody Blomberg has a new installation opening tonight at Gay City Health Project with a reception happening from 6pm to 9pm. “Stop Bullying Me!” is a provocative take on the issue of the bullying of LGBTQ youth:
Opening Mar 14, 6PM – 9PM
Exhibit dates: Mar 14 – 18 (Gallery Hours 11AM – 6PM)
Conversation with the artist: Saturday Mar 16, 12PM – 2PMRecipient of a 2012 CityArtist Award, Cody Blomberg takes on the bullying of LGBTQ youth with this illuminating multi-media series of installations. Light, backpacks, and other media deliberately connect viewers to the various emotional aspects of bullying. This third showing of “Stop Bullying Me!” follows exhibits in the art classrooms of Cascade Middle School and Washington Middle School, where Cody Blomberg and Katrina Pestano (from Safe Schools Coalition) workshopped the pieces with 250 students.
Sponsored in part by Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, Gay City, Beyond the Bridge, and Safe Schools Coalition.
We also think you should go check out “Protection” at the True Love Gallery/Tattoo Shop at 1525 Summit Avenue which showcases the work of Barbara Trentalange, Grego Rachko and Stephanie Schulz.
“Protection” is a series of portraits by Barbara Trentalange that depict human nature’s evolving need to protect and insulate ourselves. While protecting ourselves with distractions or protective gear, we are also closing ourselves off from the beauty that surrounds us. Along side Barbara’s work, we’re excited to be showing new paintings by Grego Rachko and Stephanie Schulz.
