Alexis Mateo is one of the fabulous contestants on Logo’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, Season Three. She is first to be interviewed in this season’s Drag Race with more interviews to come! Stay tuned for upcoming interviews with the other 11 contestants. And, don’t forget RuPaul’s Drag Race Season Three premieres Monday, January 24 on the Logo Channel AND you can watch it at Lobby Bar every week with hostesses Glamazonia and Lily Armani on hand, offering a wealth of drink specials from the fine folks at Lobby, the official RuPaul’s Drag Race viewing party in Seattle. Now, let’s hear what our first contestant has to say…Werk it, Alexis!

SGS: Hello Alexis Mateo. First, tell me where you are from.

Alexis: I was born and grew up in Puerto Rico and moved to Florida in 2001, where now I live in Tampa, Florida.

When was your first time in drag and what did it feel like?

My roommates and I were running late with the rent money so we decided to enter a Talent Show at Parliament House in Orlando. I was drunk and nervous as hell, but at the end I won and from that day I became a Drag Queen.

What makes you continue to perform and represent your GLBT community as a drag queen?

I love being the center of attention and I love to entertain. I’m a performer and being able to represent my GLBT community is just a plus in my job. It keeps me going.

What was your first reaction when you heard the news on becoming a Drag Race contestant?

I passed out!  I was so happy that I cried.  I had been trying to get in the competition since the first season. It was definitely one of the best days of my career.

How much tension was there in the hotel during the shooting of the show and were “frenemies” made?

It’s tension every where, It’s a competition, from the moment you get there…you’re already having a hard time with tension, but it’s a great opportunity and you have to enjoy it.

If you learned something from this show, what would that be?

Sometimes you can not please every body, but you always have to be happy with yourself.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you absolutely need with you in order to survive?

A bed, a TV and a nice Boyfriend. lol

Pick one – Lady Gaga or Cher?

Lady Gaga
