Don’t Frock It Up!: SGS Exclusive with RuPaul Drag Race’s Mariah Paris

January 26, 2011• bySeattle Gay Scene

Mariah says, "I learned more about Hollywood, than I did Drag."

Mariah Paris is one of the fabulous contestants on Logo’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, Season Three. She is the ninth to be interviewed in this season’s Drag Race with more interviews to come! Stay tuned for upcoming interviews with the other contestants. And, don’t forget RuPaul’s Drag Race Season Three airs Mondays on the Logo Channel AND you can watch it at Lobby Bar every week with hostesses Glamazonia and Lily Armani on hand, offering a wealth of drink specials from the fine folks at Lobby, the official RuPaul’s Drag Race viewing party in Seattle. (AND, if you come to Lobby, you get to view the show, TWO hours before the folks at home!) Now, let’s hear what our contestant has to say…Werk it, Mariah!

Mariah, where are you from?

I am originally from Georgia and have lived in the city of Atlanta for 11 years.

When was your first time in drag and what did it feel like?

My first drag experience was on Halloween 12 years ago.

What makes you continue to perform and represent your community as a drag queen?

The challenge of competing and the desire to continue setting a positive example for younger drag queens in the “drag ballroom” community.

What was your first reaction when you heard the news on becoming a RPDR contestant?

There was a sense of relief and ambition after hearing I made it to Rupaul’s Drag Race. I was ready to battle!

How much tension was there in the hotel during the shooting of the show and were fremenies made?

There were some girls I would never keep company with if it weren’t for meeting them on the show, but I don’t believe there was any tension. At least not on my end.

If you learned something from this show, what would that be?

I learned more about Hollywood than I did drag.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you absolutely need with you in order to survive?

The three things I would want are “my good sense”, fresh water and a boat!

Pick one – Lady Gaga or Cher?

Cher of course!
