Stuff to Do. Thursday, 3/10/11: Cap Hill Art Walk/Sylvia & Tor/The Shining at Re-bar!

March 10, 2011• bySeattle Gay Scene

Any resemblance to Diane Arbus photos is probably quite intentional...

It’s windy and very March-ish today, but if you can brave the elements, there’s plenty of fun stuff to do...It’s the Second Thursday of the month, so that means it’s time for the Capitol Hill Art Walk, aka, BLITZ! It’s the perfect opportunity to wander around the Hill, check out the art in various bars, restaurants, shops and galleries, (like Vermillion) and maybe do a bit of a pub crawl.

Make sure you crawl into Purr to check out Sylvia & Tor’s cabaret show, “Luck & Loves”. Join the delightful Sylvia O’Stayformore and her musical partner Tor for a night of song and comedy starting at 7pm. After gawking at art, you deserve a musical treat that involves a cocktail or two…

OR, you could walk to the foot of Capitol Hill, (or, drive for you lazy types, but good luck finding parking!) and head to Re-bar for the opening of Ian Bell’s Brown Derby Players newest travesty, their “staged reading/parody” of The Shining. It’s a must see for fans of the Stephen King novel and the Stanley Kubrick film, as well as the usual suspects who adore everything that Brown Derby parodies. It’s the first entry in this year’s Stephen King themed season, and it stars Dusty Warren as Jack, Nick Garrison as Wendy and Scott Shoemaker as Danny. Expect lots of phony blood, creepy twins and plenty of “Redrum”. Also: bad wigs and cheesy puns. The Shining plays for THREE nights only, no advance tickets, 21+, CASH only (both for the ticket AND at the bar) and the doors open at 7pm with the show starting at 8pm. Runs through Saturday.

Check them ALL out…tell Mrs. Torrance that Tony sent you…
