Breaking (and very sad) News: Sister Karma Za Betch has passed away.

July 30, 2011• bySeattle Gay Scene

There haven’t been any details released, but earlier this evening The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence-Abbey of St. Joan announced on their Facebook page that Sister Karma Za Betch aka Jon Krumbach passed away early Saturday morning. No cause of death has been announced.

The Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence, The Abbey of St. Joan
With deep sorrow, the Sisters of the Abbey of St. Joan report the unexpected passing of a member of our order, Sister Karma Za Betch. We are still learning the circumstances of her death, which occurred earlier today. We ask the Nuns of the Above to welcome her and care for her as she passes through the veil to join them, and we know the party will be in full swing by the time we arrive to join her! Love & Light & Eternal Joy!

Sister Karma Za Betch’s brother, Joe Krumbach made the following comment on the announcement:

Hello everyone, I’m Jon’s brother. I want to let you know that I have let the Abbey know that it is my wish that there be an event for Jon in the next couple of weeks. We have to do the “things” that need to be done on the backside, so that there can be a fabulous party to celebrate Jon’s life. I also hope that the Abbey will take this opportunity to use this event to raise money to help support the ongoing efforts of the organization. Jon loved being a Sister, he loved being Karma Za Betch and as you all know, he was one of the biggest characters any of us have ever known. He’s been my little brother for 41 years, and I can assure you, he has always been Karma. when he was a kid, when he was in the Air Force, when he was….so many other things in his short life. The upside to all of this is that he was working last night to raise money for the Abbey, and he went on to the next level in full face and one of his notorious outfits. You have to love that, and yes, he was always, always a little shit with a quick wit, and that cowboy “how do” thing, he got that from his dad….the charmer.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are a vital thread in our community raising thousands of dollars every year for non-profit groups that do so much for every member of Seattle’s LGBTQ family. When they lose a Sister, we ALL lose a Sister.

A Toast to Sister Karma Za Betch…to Jon.

We’ll keep you informed on news as it develops, with an eye out for any news on a memorial service.
