RuPaul’s Drag Race fans can put our obsession to bed for another few months, as Season 4 of the hit TV show wraps up its season and crowns a winner on tonight’s Reunion show. (And, for non-fans/haters, your long nightmare is FINALLY over!) RPDR fans were shocked with last week’s supposed “Finale” episode where traditionally the winner of the season is crowned; to foil online spoilers, NO winner was crowned and the announcement delayed to this week’s Reunion, (which I predicted!) The world still waits with baited breath to see if Sharon Needles (YAY!!!); Chad Michaels (YAY!); or Phi Phi O’Hara (MEH!) will be this year’s crowned queen and forced to spend a year shilling for Absolut and Al & Chuck Travel!
It all boils down to the fact, that in previous seasons of the show, the winner has leaked out long before the airing of the episodes. Blame big mouth queens for loose lips and a complete lack of understanding on the meaning of a Non-Disclosure Agreement… RuPaul and her producing partners, World of Wonder, and Logo were determined to prevent that this year, thus no winner was crowned during principle taping of the season last August. (Still, the names of the final three still leaked…) The Reunion show was taped only last week in front of a studio audience in North Hollywood, but RuPaul and the producers had one final trick up their sleeve: to prevent ANY leakage, RuPaul was filmed crowning EACH of the final three contestants, with the footage of the actual winner to be edited in at the last moment before the show airs tonight.
Crafty!
We have learned that during the Reunion, the issue of Willam’s departure is dealt with, and there appears to have been a special moment for Miss Latrice Royale which leads us to suspect she MIGHT have won Miss Congeniality but that’s only a guess…but, if she did win, we wholeheartedly approve since she WAS the most congenial of the departed contestants, though Chad is also equally deserving in our eyes.
We learn ALL (hopefully) the answers on tonight’s show and remember, you can watch with friends and cocktails at just about every gay bar in town, including CC Attle’s, Diesel and R Place and at the official Logo viewing location at Lobby Bar with hosts Glamazonia and Lily Armani and chances to win prizes. (They’re also hosting a Season Wrap Party NEXT Monday at Lobby.)
And, in the coming weeks/months, you’ll get to see several of the contestants in Seattle. It’s already been confirmed that Sharon Needles will be here for “Hey Tranny It’s Tranny” on June 22nd, and Latrice Royale is scheduled to be at R Place for Pride Weekend as well. We’ve also heard tiny Kenya Michaels will be back that week, too.
Meanwhile, apparently dozens of local queens vie to be on Season Five of RPDR, including Mama Tits and LaSaveona Hunt.
Sorry, drag haters: it just NEVER ends.
