More Bad News For Broadway: Mark O’Donnell, Of Hairspray Fame, Dead At 58.

August 7, 2012• bySeattle Gay Scene

Tony Award winning writer Mark O’Donnell, RIP.

Broadway is having a very, very sad day.  It is now being reported that Tony Award winning writer, Mark O’Donnell, was found dead of an apparent heart attack in his building’s lobby.

Mr. O’Donnell rose to fame as the co-adapter of “Hairspray,” the charming musical adapation of John Water’s iconic film.

I was fortunate enough to see “Hairspray” when it previewed in Seattle at the 5th many moons ago.

Does this death combined with Gore Vidal and Marvin Hamlisch bring us to 3 celeb deaths?  The rule of three always applies.  Advice to celebrities for the next few weeks: go to the doctor and avoid small airplanes!

RIP Mr. O’Donnell and condolences to all.
