It’s been awhile since Seattle has had a mega, brand name, stadium filling musical act…a lot of water has passed under the bridge since the days of Nirvana, Pearl Jam or Heart. But, our own indie hip hoppy-poppy/rappy darlings MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS seem to be crossing over into that territory. In the last year, the success of singles like “Thrift Store”, “Can’t Hold Us” and the same sex marriage anthem, “Same Love” have earned them international acclaim and a currently ongoing and frequently sold out European tour. And, “Same Love” and the duo’s pro-equality stance has earned them millions of LGBTQ fans including Ellen DeGeneres who gushed over them and highly promoted them last year on her talk show.
The U.S. will get to experience some of that Macklemore & Lewis love this fall, as the duo embark on their first major, big venue world tour which will include stops at NYC’s Madison Square Garden (Nov 13 & 14) and L.A.’s Staples Center on Dec 4. The national tour kicks off locally…but, not in M&L’s hometown. Opening night is October 22 at Portland’s Rose Garden, then a stop the next day in Spokane. Our homeboys will close out this leg on December 12 with a hugeass homecoming at Key Arena.Brooklyn emcee Talib Kweli and Big K.R.I.T. will be the opening acts for the tour.
Hardcore fans will be able to scoop up tickets in a pre-sale that starts TOMORROW, TUESDAY, June 25 at the Macklemore & Lewis website. General on sale tickets for those not in the know, happen on Friday, June 28th.
We’re guessing the Seattle show will sell out in minutes…will they add a second show as a Holiday Treat for hometown fans? Wouldn’t surprise us.
