#PROTD: “The L Word” Returns To TV

July 11, 2017• byMichael Strangeways

LWord

GAAAAAAAASP!

Can a remount of “Queer as Folk” be far behind?

Showtime announces (via Entertainment Weekly) that the beloved lesbian soap opera THE L WORD will return to the cable network for an all new season of suds and sensation.

Lady loving ladies of a certain age (35ish to 55ish)  across the lady just squealed in delight.

Duh poo:

Earlier today EW helped break the news that Showtime is currently developing another season of its hit lesbian drama The L Word. EW also recently reunited the cast, and now, EW senior writer Tim Stack has an exclusive interview with original star Jennifer Beals, who will return as executive producer as well as appear in the series.

Beals tells EW about the catalyst for the sequel: “The election happened. I remember I was in South Dakota watching the returns come in and I texted Ilene and I said, “We need to do something.” She said, “Let’s get together and talk about it.” So we were spitballing about what to do and I said our skillset is storytelling and I think we need to tell stories and certainly in an atmosphere of increasing hatred towards the LGBT community and frankly anyone who’s categorized as “other,” stories exploring the complexities of friendship and love are all that more crucial. Representation of everything. You can’t go backward. I would love to see the show continue to mine its original themes of friendship and love and community and additionally I’d like it to go a little further and challenge heteronormalcy.”

She adds, “I learned what activism is through The L Word and that was life-changing.”
