Jinkx Monsoon To Make Broadway Debut as Mama Morton in “Chicago”

She’s not the first alum of RuPaul’s Drag Race to snag a role on a Broadway stage (I believe that was Peppermint a couple seasons back) but former Seattle drag diva the much beloved JINKX MONSOON will be making her Broadway debut in January taking an 8 week stint in the very long running musical CHICAGO in the role of Mama Morton. Jinkx will be the first drag queen to take a role in the Broadway production of Chicago which has featured dozens of stars take on roles in the show in the main roles.

It was announced this morning via Entertainment Weekly with Jinkx making the following statement:

“I cannot stress enough that this has been a lifelong dream of mine,” Jinkx said in an exclusive statement to EW. “To be making my Broadway debut, as my favorite role, in one of my favorite shows — that lifelong dream is coming true and then some. The first number I performed in drag was ‘All That Jazz,’ so this feels almost too serendipitous. But, I never question my blessings, I just thank Hecate for them.”

It’s been a whirlwind year for Jinkx who earned fresh acclaim after winning RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars 7 earlier this year making her the first RPDR alum to win two titles after her initial win on Season 5 of the long running series. Currently, Monsoon is on a worldwide tour of her holiday show The Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Special with fellow RPDR and Seattle alum BenDeLaCreme. The duo will be in Seattle December 21 through the 24th with that show, at downtown’s Moore Theatre. Very few tickets are left…get them here: https://www.stgpresents.org/calendar/13509/the-jinkx-dela-holiday-show

Jinkx takes the stage as Mama Morton for eight weeks starting January 16, 2023 at Chicago at the Ambassador Theatre in New York City. Ticket link below.

In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
