OMG! The Queer Animated Spy Show We Always Wanted: Q-Force on Netflix

August 19, 2021• byMichael Strangeways
Q-Force drops on Netflix on Sept 2nd.

OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!!

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yas, we are a TRIFLE excited about this new animated show debuting on Netflix on September 2nd…it’s Q-FORCE, a 10 episode series from actor/producer Sean Hayes and show runner Gabe Liedman, best known as half of the comedy duo “Gabe & Jenny” and as a writer for Inside Amy Schumer, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and PEN15 among other shows.

It’s a spy spoof about a top operative, Steve Maryweather, who comes out at his agency and due to homophobia gets assigned to West Hollywood. There, Steve organizes a crack team of other LGBTQ operatives to fight crime and espionage on the mean streets of WeHo!

Some online poopheads have already ragged on the show based on a trailer and the premise for being too stereotypical, in their eyes, but we’re very willing to give this show a chance. It looks great and light comedy is a fun alternative to dull self-righteous shows about queer life so….

SQUEEEEEEEEE!

Also, how can a cartoon with exposed testicles in it be bad?

Q-FORCE
Premieres: Thursday, Sept. 2

Steve Maryweather, AKA Agent Mary, was once the Golden Boy of the American Intelligence Agency (AIA), until he came out as gay. Unable to fire him, the Agency sent him off to West Hollywood, to disappear into obscurity. Instead, he assembled a misfit squad of LGBTQ+ geniuses. Joining forces with the expert mechanic Deb, master of drag and disguise Twink, and hacker Stat, together they’re Q-Force. But, after a decade of waiting for their first official mission from The AIA, Mary becomes hell-bent on proving himself to the Agency that turned its back on him, and decides to go rogue with Q-Force. After finding their own case, and solving it on their own terms, they get the reluctant approval of The AIA, and are officially upgraded to Active Secret Agents in the field. But, that approval comes with one major caveat– they must put up with a new member of the squad: straight-guy Agent Buck.

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
