Don’t Frock It Up!: SGS Exclusive with RuPaul Drag Race’s Venus D Lite

January 21, 2011• bySeattle Gay Scene

Venus D Lite says, "Girl clothes are more glamorous than boy clothes".

Venus D Lite is one of the fabulous contestants on Logo’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, Season Three. She is the sixth to be interviewed in this season’s Drag Race with more interviews to come! Stay tuned for upcoming interviews with the other contestants. And, don’t forget RuPaul’s Drag Race Season Three premieres Monday, January 24 on the Logo Channel AND you can watch it at Lobby Bar every week with hostesses Glamazonia and Lily Armani on hand, offering a wealth of drink specials from the fine folks at Lobby, the official RuPaul’s Drag Race viewing party in Seattle. Now, let’s hear what our contestant has to say…Werk it, Venus!

Venus D Lite, where are you from?
Well, darlings, I am from the City of Angels, LOS ANGELES!

When was your first time in drag and what did it feel like?
I felt FABULOUS and I also felt like a celebrity. It amazed me then and it still amazes me now how much attention you get when you are in Drag.

What makes you continue to perform and represent your community as a drag queen?
Drag to me is such a learning experience. Over the years your make up and performing skills get better and there are always new adventures that come you way in Drag. For me it never gets boring and I think that’s why I still do it. Plus “Girl” clothes are more glamorous than “Boy” clothes.

What was your first reaction when you heard the news on becoming a RPDR contestant?
I fell to the floor and cried like a baby. It was one of the most emotional experiences of my life.

How much tension was there in the hotel during the shooting of the show and were fremenies made?
To be honest there really was not that much tension with me or the other girls. I really enjoyed their company a lot. I am glad I got to make some new friends during the show, furthermore, the hardest part was being in the hotel room by yourself for so long.

If you learned something from this show, what would that be?
I would have to say the biggest lesson I learned would be to take risks and chances and to sometimes just let yourself go.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you absolutely need with you in order to survive?
A fully stocked bar, some great dance music, and a dance floor!

Pick one – Lady Gaga or Cher?
Madonna!!!! The Queen!!!!!
