Oh, the horror…yes, it’s time for the new season of Ian Bell’s Brown Derby Series of staged readings of beloved films of the last 40 or so years at Re-bar and this year’s theme, is a lulu. Frankly, we’re shocked it hasn’t already been done, but this year, Mr Bell and Company will pay hommage to the fine, fine films of the Master of Modern Horror, Mr. Stephen King! And, to kick things off, Brown Derby will stage a reading of “The Shining”, the controversial Stanley Kubrick adaptation of Mr. King’s novel, that starred Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall and the creepiest hotel in Colorado. (Mr King HATED Kubrick’s take on the book, and produced his own television version in 1997 which starred the creepiest child actor in the history of Hollywood and his revolting bowel cut haircut.)
Mr Bell brings the Kubrick film to life with a cast that includes Brown Derby regulars, Dusty Warren as Jack; Nick Garrison as Wendy and Scott Shoemaker as Danny, complete with horrifying wig, or so I’ve been told...and, I’m guessing we’ll be seeing spooky twins, Grady the creepy former caretaker, someone playing Scatman Crothers and lots of creepies and crawlies but for the life of me, I can’t figure out how they’ll pull off the bloody elevator bit, or running through the maze…
Check it out Thursday through Saturday, March 10-12 at 8pm at Re-bar. Doors open at 7pm. No advance tickets; $16 CASH only at the door. 21+.
Check it OUT!
