A tradition dating back to the Gay 90’s resumed last night at Neighbours…the 2013 edition of Seattle Out & Proud’s “Pride Idol” kicked off with hostess Robbie Turner. Singer Jon Noble advanced to the finals and the race to the Finale on June 9th continues. And, for those of you in the dark, Pride Idol (lovingly referred to as “Pridol” in our household) is SO&P’s rip-off homage to “American Idol” featuring super talented local folks singing their way to fame & fortune…or, in the case of Pridol, singing their way to a year’s worth of gigs including a lot of attention at this year’s Pride festivities.
Week #2 of Pridol is next Sunday, April 14 at Neighbours. The fun starts at 6:00pm with community Karaoke fun, followed by the contest at 7:30pm. There’s a $20 fee for contestants to enter the competition but the audience doesn’t have to pay a cent! (But, buy drinks or Neighbours will be cross…they got bills to pay!) And, contestants should have TWO songs prepared for performance!
And, despite the fact that it happens the same night as “Mad Men”, Pridol organizer Eric Bennett coerced me into being a judge. (I expect to be given LOTS of drink tickets!) Joining me will be Three Dollar Bill’s Executive Director Jason Plourde (who’ll need even MORE drink tickets than Mr. Strangeways…GLUG, GLUG!) Robbie Turner has a prior engagement, so the hostess for next week will be the ever lovely, Mama Tits.
Fun!
In other SO&P related news, they’re already looking for volunteers for this year’s Seattle Pride Parade to be held Sunday, June 30, 2013 at 11am in downtown Seattle down 4th Avenue. Go here to volunteer your services…they need lots of eager bodies to put on the event.
Registration to be IN the parade has also started. If your group/business wants to march pridefully down the street, then go here to sign up. (It’s way more fun to be IN the parade, than watch it! It only takes an hour to march, but 2+ hours to watch it!) And, this year’s theme is:
EQUALITY: PASSED, PRESENT AND FUTURE
Cute.
