Dan hearts Terry...and now they're the Grand Marshals of the 2011 NYC Pride Parade.
Just announced from NYC Pride:
NYC Pride is excited to announce Dan Savage, Terry Miller, Rev. Pat Bumgardner, (the Senior Pastor of Metropolitan Community Church of New York), and the Imperial Court of New York as Grand Marshals for the 42nd Annual LGBT Pride March, which will occur on June 26th, 2011. “We are thrilled at the opportunity of hosting such inspiring leaders of LGBT marriage equality, community service, and youth self-assurance.” stated Mike Dunlap, 2011 NYC Pride March Director.
Mr. Savage and Mr. Miller are being honored for their work in creating the “It Gets Better Project”, aimed at helping LGBTQ youth facing bullying, depression and suicide. The project was created in 2010 as an online tool to aid queer and questioning kids and recently led to a New York Times best selling book version. The Seattle couple, together for 16 years and married in Canada, have a son D.J.
Congratulations to Dan, Terry and IGBP…and, we’re guessing this means you won’t be in town for Seattle PrideFest 2011…
It’s been a good year for the couple with the huge success and acclaim of this project as well as the recent announcement that MTV has given a green light to Dan’s new show for the cable network, “Savage U” which will (presumedly) provide entertaining and humorous sex ed information for the college age crowd.
Personally, we’re still waiting for Dan and Terry to be asked to be Guest Judges on “Drag Race”…or, even “Project Runway”. Once they achieve that, they can retire.
