Carmen Carrera, where are you from?
I am from the Garden State, fist pumping capitol of the world: New Jersey!!!
When was your first time in drag and what did it feel like?
I performed at a diva search amateur competition in New York. It was extremely nerve racking because I really wanted to do well and I always add a ton of unnecessary pressure when doing new things. I ended up winning that night and the next few months following. The rest is drag history!
What makes you continue to perform and represent your community as a drag queen?
My inner creativity fuels my need and desire to perform. I’ve always had an ability to listen to songs, close my eyes, and visualize something artistic. From those visualizations, I create my costumes. Sometimes it can be small, like the texture on fabric. I always link my costumes to the feeling of the song.
What was your first reaction when you heard the news on becoming a RPDR contestant?
It was the best news I’ve ever gotten. I don’t think I’ve ever been that happy. Then it was just a ton of anticipation and for some reason, a need to buy a lot of wigs.
How much tension was there in the hotel during the shooting of the show and were fremenies made?
To be honest, after filming I would come back to the hotel and be in my own world. I really don’t care for fremenies or negativity of any kind. There were times that I totally forgot there were other people staying at the same hotel.
If you learned something from this show, what would that be?
I learned to never stop thinking big. Never stop dreaming.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you absolutely need with you in order to survive?
I would need a body scrub, body lotion, and a razor. Everything else I’d be able to find or make on the island. Personal hygiene is very important to me.
Pick one – Lady Gaga or Cher?
I’m a Gaga fan!!!! Cher is legend but Gaga is now and eventually will be legend!!!
is carmen puerto rican or cuban
