Now, let’s hear what our first contestant has to say…Werk it, Mimi!
SGS: So Mimi Imfurst, where are you from?
MI: I live in the fiercest concrete jungle! I’ve had the pleasure of spending nights guzzling booze and flirting with boys in New York City.
When was your first time in drag and what did it feel like?
The first time I ever did drag was for vacation bible school when I was 10 years old and the theme was “Jesus Undercover”. My mother put my brother and I in full drag as aging beauty queens and we were undercover agents for christ. I had no idea then that would turn into a fabulous full time career!
What makes you continue to perform and represent your community as a drag queen?
I find that we are inundated with the chaos of the world with our current 24/7 access to media and it’s so important that we are able to laugh and find joy so we can get through the awfulness we face every day! I love making people smile and laugh.
What was your first reaction when you heard the news on becoming a RPDR contestant?
I was so excited. Honestly I couldn’t sit down for an hour. I was just running around my apartment.
How much tension was there in the hotel during the shooting of the show and was fremenies made?
Take cell phones away from 12 drag queens and lock them in a 12×12 tiny hotel room. Deprive them of facebook, and there is sure to be chaos! The funny thing is the vending machines in the hotel had feather boas and eye lashes in them! We had fun and in the end we’re all sisters who went through a crazy chaotic experience together.
If you learned something from this show, what would that be?
I learned to trust myself. I am very good at what I do, and its very different from what someone else does. Ru says, “know who you are and deliver it at all times”, and that is SO TRUE. When you learn that, and believe it, and live it, you will find not only success but more importantly- happiness.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you absolutely need with you in order to survive?
That robot from the Jetsons that could dispense any meal you wanted, a satellite solar powered TV that got MSNBC (I’m a dork) and most importantly a DAMN HELICOPTER to get me off the island!
Pick one – Lady Gaga or Cher?
Bette Midler. She’s my one and only Diva.
