Few contemporary filmmakers excite us as much as Spanish auteur Pedro Almodovar. His color saturated comedies and melodramas have delighted us for decades and we look forward to whatever film he has up his sleeve. Of late, Don Almodovar has tended to dwell in the land of passionate and moody drama seemingly forsaking his roots in ribald and frequently profane comedy. That’s all changing with his latest film, “I’m So Excited” set to debut in 2013…it’s an out and out comedy almost completely set on an airplane and it sort of appears to be Almodovar’s tribute to “Airport” and “Airplane”.
The just released trailer features three very fey male flight attendants getting drunk and high in order to deal with their fussy passengers which leads to a lovely in flight performance by the three to the Pointer Sister’s hit song, “I’m So Excited”. It’s the campiest Almodovar moment since his first big hit, “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” in 1988.
We’re so very excited.
