There is a Big Gay Alternative Drag God after all…BACON STRIP, the beloved drag/burlesque/punk variety show and cabaret created and hosted by Sylvia O’Stayformore has announced that it has a new home: Theatre Off Jackson in the International District. The Strip left its home base of Re-bar last December for a short stint at Chop Suey, the home of the weakest drinks on the Hill, (well, them and Fred Wildlife Refuge, but I digress…),then rebounded at The Grill on Broadway in March. The unexpected closure of The Grill in late April left Bacon Strip homeless and a depressed company wondering if it was the swan song for Seattle’s only alternative drag performance showcase.
But, over the weekend, Sylvia excitedly announced that the Strip would be back…in September, and at a brand new venue. Here’s her breathless announcement:
Hey Kids,
I wanted to give you a heads up! We are back! After our summer break we have new themes, new location and some amazing improvements. Starting in September we are opening up again in Theater Off Jackson!
Theater Off Jackson (ToJ) has offered to take us in as part of thier late night theater offerings. It is not the Hill BUT
(Toj) is a space that can house a very large number of people.
(Toj) is opening up the upstairs cabaret space for us to create, be messy, be crazy and wild like we are used to.
(ToJ) has a full cocktail bar with staff
(ToJ) is a space that has lots of surrounding parking
(ToJ) is a space with a stage, lighting, dressing rooms, and a kitchen
(ToJ) is a space that can provide us with steady list of dates
(ToJ) is in the International DistrictWe are super excited about the space. So watch my website, Seattle Gay Scene and Facebook for dates, themes and updates. More information coming soon!
We DO have some more poo for you about the big move…the show will be based in TOJ’s upstairs event space, The Canoe Room, and not in the main downstairs theater. The first Bacon Strip is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, September 7 with following monthly shows to happen the second Saturday of the month. More info on dates, tickets and themes will be released soon. Watch for updates.
AND, Miss Honey Bucket will join Sylvia as a co-producer and hostess for the newly revitalized Strip…so, expect more FILTH….of the clean, wholesome variety.
Now, we have something to look forward to in the fall…
