The big scoop on Saturday, September 1st was the announcement that Seattle drag diva and “hostest with the mostest” SYLVIA O’STAYFORMORE was getting her own venue.

The diva herself announced it at her long running monthly variety show BACON STRIP at the venue in question, the Georgetown neighborhood coffee shop/beer & wine bar The Conservatory where Sylvia and her show have been based at for the last year after long runs at Theatre Off Jackson in the International District and their original home at Re-bar. Sylvia is buying into the business which will be renamed “The Palace Theater and Art Bar”.

The veteran entertainer and producer also confirmed the news via social media on Tuesday, September 4th. The new venue will focus on presenting live entertainment events throughout the week, with a focus on cabaret performances from a variety of performers including drag and burlesque entertainers. It’s not a huge change in direction for this venue which has long presented itself as a cabaret space available for independent event producers.

No word on whether the venue plans on major physical alterations in the future. The new venue plans on getting a full liquor license.

More as it develops!

About the Author: Michael Strangeways

As the Editorial Director/Co-Owner, Michael Strangeways writes, edits and does about a million other jobs for Seattle Gay Scene, Puget Sound's most visited LGBTQ news, arts and entertainment website now celebrating its 14th year as a media outlet. A semi-proud Midwesterner by birth, he's lived in Seattle since 2000. He's also a film producer who would like you to check out the Jinkx Monsoon documentary, "Drag Becomes Him" now available on Amazon.com. In his spare time, he gets slightly obsessive about his love for old movies, challenging theater, "otters", vodka, chocolate, "I,Claudius", Lizzie Borden, real books made out of paper, disaster films, show tunes, Weimar era Germany, flea markets, pop surrealistic art, the sex lives of Hollywood actors both living and dead, kitties, chicken fried steak, haute couture and David Bowie. But, not necessarily in that order.
