JEBUS, it feels good to get it out…
The worst kept rumor in Seattle has FINALLY been revealed. After months of whispers and speculation, LogoTV and World of Wonder have announced the cast for Season Six of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and Seattle’s own beloved drag diva/producer BEN DELACREME is part of the cast for the show which will begin airing in February of 2014.
And, yes, we’re gonna be frank about the fact this was a RUMOR for the last few months…it’s Logo’s own fault. They’ve filmed the last few RPDR seasons during the Pride Month of June so it’s obvious that people are going to notice when local drag divas vanish during the most lucrative season of the year for drag performers. Hard core Drag Race fans are always keeping tabs on social media and quickly notice when drag stars “vanish” from the social scene. Dozens of blogs/web sites around the country immediately began snooping and publishing just WHO was missing and who was surmised to be on the Drag Race set which apparently filmed from about the 2nd week in June of 2013 to the 2nd week of July. Miss DeLaCreme was one of the names most frequently mentioned on these speculative lists, largely due to the fact she pulled out of several Pride events, as well as her own produced 4th of July show, “Freedom Fantasia” at The Triple Door over the Independence Day holidays. It doesn’t take a queer rocket scientist long to figure out that something fishy is up, when drag superstars turn up missing during RPDR production times…especially when $$$$ is involved.
So, we’re really very thrilled to condragulate Miss DeLaCreme on making the cut for Season Six and we know she’ll follow in the footsteps of our last local contestant, and eventual winner of Season 5, our very own Jinkx Monsoon. And, it’s also gratifying to see that the rest of the drag fandom world will finally know that Seattle is home to some of the very best drag performers in the country.
It’s also worth noting that after the Ben DeLa rumors started last summer, more than one local diva who had sent in an audition tape for this upcoming season, mentioned to me that if the rumors were true, there was no one else around, other than themselves, that they’d want to see on RPDR than Ben DeLa. Everyone in Seattle who knows Ben or has seen the amazing work he (switching to boy pronoun on purpose) does, not only as a brilliant performer and comedian, but also as a very well rounded producer of events, including writing, directing and physically putting shows together designing and making so many of the components of the shows, is well aware than Ben and Ben DeLa have what it takes to become America’s Next Drag Superstar. We’re very proud and very happy he’s on Season Six and we can’t wait to see what he’s going to bring to the party.
Meanwhile, we’re in Day Two (of Three) of Logo’s announcement of the Season Six contestants as they gradually release boy and drag photos on various social media outlets related to RuPaul’s Drag Race and LogoTV. Many rumored upon contestants, including Adore Delano, April Carrion, Courtney Act, and Kelly Mantle are announced but there have been a couple surprise names as well, including NYC’s Milk Queen and Joslyn Fox…apparently, the fans couldn’t track down EVERY contestant…or, some of these unknown girls got the boot early. Logo doesn’t apparently sequester the contestants who get booted, like they do on some competitive shows like The Amazing Race or Survivor….the ejected are sent home ASAP! We’ll see…
Also to note about the cast being announced: They look TERRIFIC! This should be a very exciting season with lots of hugely talented people on board. Also/Also: the photography of the queens is WAAAAAAAY better than last season…remember that awful photo of Jinkx? The photos for this season are stunning.
