Long ago, in a disco far, far away… Chavi Hohm met a beautiful woman named Kim Colaprete. They gazed at each other for awhile until they both said in unison, “I fink you freeky and I like you a lot!” And, so began the glamorous love affair that birthed the powerhouse Team Diva Real Estate.
I first met them a couple years ago when DonnaTella Howe took me and Vancouver, BC celebrity Raye Sunshine to their home for some brunch realness. Instantly, Kim asked me if I’d like some hair of the dog in the form of a giant mimosa glass, and I was hooked on phonics. I appreciate them so much, because they know that your disco needs you.
“So put on your bell bottom pants and prepare for the Pride Kickoff event of the season with drinks, dancing, and drag queens galore!” DIVAS TAKE THE HILL returns for your pleasure on Thursday, June 12th at the Velocity Dance Center, (1621 12th Ave). Door is at 7:30pm and the magic begins at 8:00pm! Follow this link to buy your tickets, gorl.
But first, here are the five reasons why you should get your groove on:
REASON #5: GIMME, GIMME, GIMME A MAN AFTER MIDNIGHT
You may know them for being the dual-force behind heating up the bacon at Bacon Strip, but James and Kerry Darling of the House of Darling will be on hand steaming up the windows more than the sex scene in ‘Titanic’. Like honestly, they could just sit on stage and half-naked and caress each other for five long minutes and I think everyone would be absolutely satisfied.
REASON #4: YOU LOVE THE NIGHTLIFE, YOU LOVE TO BOOGIE
Listen. I know that you’re still feeling the aftershocks of the recession and you’re #beautyonabudget about your expenses, but the crafty Divas have priced the event very reasonably. I mean, you’ll get white girl wasted and sweat the liquor out of your system on the third floor of R Place… so, you damn sure can afford $20 for gay youths. Think of all the good karma that will come your way. Some of you need it more than others!
REASON #3: DON’T GO WASTING YOUR EMOTION, LAY ALL YOUR LOVE ON QUEENS
Aside from the hostess (I’ll elaborate on her in a moment), the girls have corralled a whole slew of bomb ass queens and performers worthy of your entertainment. Smartly, they tapped Deja Nouveau as a new performer, but we already stroked her tuck enough last month. Asian sensation Atasha Manila will be making a triumphant return, joined by the talented Dani Tirrell, Tupperware goddess Sylvia O’Stayformore, and DJ Tony fuckin’ Burns will be taking a break from perming his boyfriend’s hair to spin you all the disco jams.
REASON #2: GOTTA HAVE SOME ‘HOWE’ STUFF BABY THIS EVENING
She was once a cast member of “Lashes Cabaret” at R Place, but DonnaTella Howe packed her bags and pulled a Christina Aguilera a la “Burlesque,” moving on to draggier pastures. Nowadays, she’s literally every-fucking-where and doing it, and doing it, and doing it well. Typically, you can catch her at: Bacon Strip, ‘Booze Balls & Bingo,’ Julia’s Queen of the Brunch, and every gawd damn Thursday co-hosting Revolution Thursdays at The Baltic Room with Kitty Kitty Bang Bang. However, on this fateful night, she’ll be the Hostess with the Mostess.
REASON #1: CHARITY IS THEIR FIRST, THEIR LAST, THEIR EVERYTHING
When disco meets philanthropy, it’s a win-win situation. Every year, the Divas raise money for a local charity while you dance your ass off. This year, they are partnering with the Inspire Youth Project (formerly Rise ‘n Shine) to support at-risk youth, specifically those affected by HIV/AIDS. How groovy is that? So groovy.

Inspire Youth Project, formerly Rise n’ Shine, continues a 25 year legacy of providing the missing social and emotional links for at-risk children in transition, including youth affected by HIV/AIDS from ages 5-18 and beyond.
Inspire Youth Project provides long-term and sustainable support through a recognized mentoring program, summer camp, program for teens and ongoing support groups. Our goals are to provide the consistency and nurturing that a child needs in order to grow and contribute to our society, rather than be dependent upon it. We inspire children to have hope and to dream. We stay at their side, and on their side, providing the support they need to attain those dreams. 25 years later, many of those same children return to offer the support, guidance and love they once received from our caring and dedicated staff.
