SGS contributor Dan Williams is in Washington DC this weekend with his husband Alan to march in THE EQUALITY MARCH FOR UNITY AND PRIDE which happened earlier this morning. Several thousand people marched for equal rights and to protest alarming actions by the Trump Administration and the Republican led Congress.
Daniel Bruinooge, who is based in Brooklyn, New York, proposed the march on Facebook in January, according to the Washington Blade. He wrote on the event’s Facebook page that he drew inspiration from the worldwide Women’s March in January and hoped to create a similar event for the LGBTQ community.
The march’s platform highlights a number of causes, including disability rights, preventing violence against LGBTQ people, and support for LGBTQ immigrants.
Dan sent us these snapshots of the parade earlier today. Seattle and a hundred other cities are staging solidarity marches today with Seattle’s PRIDE MARCH beginning with a rally at 11 am in Capitol Hill’s Cal Anderson Park followed by a march leading downtown and ultimately to Seattle Center, home of the iconic Space Needle.
