It was a big, surprise hit last year, Gay City Health Project’s local production of the timely and riveting theater piece, “The Infection Monologues”, a series of monologues about living with HIV originally conceived in San Francisco and enlarged and adapted for Seattle audiences last year with the participation of local artists. It’s returning this Friday and Saturday, December 2 & 3, 2011 at the Erickson Theatre Off Broadway in an all new production and tickets are now available HERE.
Here’s more information on this important project, from Gay City.
Gay City Health Project, with support from MOMS Pharmacy from US DHHS Region 10, is proud to announce the return of The Infection Monologues to Seattle. The Infection Monologues breaks new ground on the way we understand HIV infections, HIV stigma, and living with HIV, as well as challenges the way we think about the contemporary HIV experience.
Called a “powerful, timely, and well acted piece that undoubtedly benefits the gay community” by Seattle Gay Scene, and “funny and thought provoking” by the Seattle Gay News, The Infection Monologues is a touching, humorous, and ground breaking narrative on living with HIV more than thirty years into the epidemic. Written by Eric Rofes and Alex Garner, and first performed in San Francisco in 2005, the original script was significantly modified and expanded, with new characters added by local queer writers Vincent Kovar, Chad Goller-Sojourner, and Cole Arden Peake, and a new artistic vision from local queer director Manny Cawaling.
“I enjoyed it. I like that it had a sense of humor,” said Kevin Skiena after attending last year’s premier performance, adding, “It was funny. I wasn’t expecting it to be funny.”
“It was really very powerful,” said Bryce Bailey, another audience member. “The stories came to life for me. I felt like I was watching my own life and the people in my life.”
The Infection Monologues will take place on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3 at the Erickson Theatre Off Broadway. Ticket prices are $15 for general admission and $10 for students or seniors.
“We’re thrilled to be presenting such a touching, humorous and thought provoking piece,” says Executive Director Fred Swanson, adding, “We hope to continue offering such amazing artistic endeavors as this.”
