“It” is the just dropped trailer for THE PROM the Netflix adaptation of the sleeper Broadway musical about some hammy New York City theater actors who descend on a small town in Indiana to not only aid a young out lesbian student go to her high school prom with a female date but to also help their sagging theatrical careers. Naturally, they and the backassward hick town learn some valuable lessons while singing catchy Broadway tunes!
This Netflix take on the material looks great, with its all-star cast including Meryl Streep, James Corden and Nicole Kidman and the film is also generating award season buzz….since the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences are allowing streaming films to be eligible for Oscar consideration there’s a chance Dame Meryl could get her 12,476th nomination!

Synopsis | Dee Dee Allen (three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep) and Barry Glickman (Tony Award winner James Corden) are New York City stage stars with a crisis on their hands: their expensive new Broadway show is a major flop that has suddenly flatlined their careers. Meanwhile, in small-town Indiana, high school student Emma Nolan (newcomer Jo Ellen Pellman) is experiencing a very different kind of heartbreak: despite the support of the high school principal (Keegan-Michael Key), the head of the PTA (Kerry Washington) has banned her from attending the prom with her girlfriend, Alyssa (Ariana DeBose).
