Stuff To Do: Cloud Nine opens at the Erickson.

July 7, 2011• bySeattle Gay Scene

Our big pick for the day, (and for the next four weeks Thurs-Sat) will probably be Strawberry Theatre Workshop’s production of Caryl Churchill’s Cloud Nine which opens tonight, Thursday July 7 at the Erickson Theatre (behind the Egyptian on Harvard). A gender bending comic farce, with some dark undertones, Ms Churchill’s play examines the politics of gender, sexuality, race and colonialism…and still manages to be funny as hell. It doesn’t hurt that nearly every character in the play explores same-sex love at some point…and/or lust and there’s more cross-dressing in this play than an episode of “Benny Hill”…

With an All-Star cast of actors including Ian Bell, Sarah Rudinoff, Imogen Love, Basil Harris, James Cowan, Gretchen Krich, and Scott Shoemaker and direction by Nick Garrison, the Strawshop’s production has “Must See” written all over it. And, I know more than one person involved has raved about the experience of creating this production….do happy rehearsal rooms make for good plays? We hope so.

We’re checking it out tonight and a few tickets are still available at Brown Paper Tickets.
