The 63rd Annual Emmy Awards nominations were announced this morning, and once again two favorites of the LGBTQ community cleaned up with Modern Family earning 17 nominations including acting kudos for the entire adult cast of the show (last year, Ed O’Neill was the only adult snubbed; he earned a nod this year). Glee did well, too, with 14 nominations including Chris Colfer and last year’s best supporting actress Jane Lynch repeating but Michael Morrison and Lea Michele were shut out. (Happily, “Coach Bieste” Dot-Marie Jones picked up a Guest Actress nomination, as did Kristin Chenoweth as April Rhodes and Gwyneth Paltrow as Holly Holliday.)
My personal favorite AMC’s Mad Men grabbed a slew of nods, including Jon Hamm, Elizabeth Moss, John Slattery, and Christina Hendricks. Even the awesome Randee Heller was nominated for Guest Actress for her very funny (and ultimately funny-tragic) turn as Don Draper’s frumpy/grumpy secretary Miss Blankenship.
Sadly, no love for RuPaul or her Drag Race. And, my two favorite animated shows, Archer and Bob’s Burgers failed to get nominated for best Animated show…the morons at the academy chose to honor the played out The Simpsons, yet again…
The Emmys air on Fox on September 18th.
