TOO Many Options! Queer Spawn…HollaBack…Pridol Goes West…Oy!

May 22, 2014• bySeattle Gay Scene

I’m exhausted thinking about them, but I’m REQUIRED (by federal law) to inform you of all the fun options for Thursday Merriment.

1) QUEER SPAWN is the latest production from FANTASTIC Z, a local queercentric theater company. For those of you on a budget, they’re having a “Pay What You Can” preview tonight at the Eclectic Theatre on Capitol Hill. More poo:

Fantastic.Z Theatre Company is proud to present the west coast premiere of “queerSpawn” by Mallery Avidon at Eclectic Theater Thursday through Saturday nights from May 23rd to June 7th at 8pm.

(special Pay What You Can Preview Thursday May 22nd)

Tickets:
$15 advance tickets at www.brownpapertickets.com
$12 Student / TPS member (with valid ID)
$20 cash at the door

“queerSpawn” by Mallery Avidon is a playfully significant look at a different kind of bullying. A heterosexual cisgendered teenage boy with lesbian mothers “who love him more than sunshine” struggles with surviving high school in a small town. Facing four more years of outrageous bullying, he attempts to cope with this harsh reality by creating imaginary friends of tabloid headliners rather than telling his parents.

Eclectic Theater is located at 1214 10th Avenue on Capitol Hill in Seattle

And, you need to support QUEER LOCAL THEATER!!!

2) Since we’re media sponsors, it behooves us to mention it’s HOLLABACK THURSDAY @ NEIGHBOURS, the fierce new weekly show that lovingly recalls the music of the “turn of the century”. Please join resident hostess, ISAAC SCOTT and resident DJ, BRET LAW plus special guest CHERRY SUR BETE for a night that is probably gonna feature most of these named stars:

Music from 1997-2007 including: Madonna, Backstreet Boys, Cher, Britney Spears, Nelly, Mary J Blige, Tony Braxton, Janet Jackson, Venga Boys, Beyonce, 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake, TLC, Usher, Gwen Stefani, Sugar Ray, Savage Garden, Next, Mariah Carey, Brandy & Monica, Outkast, Deborah Cox, Blackstreet, Genuine, N’Sync, and SO MANY MORE!

It’s a $3 cover but free before 10pm and the drink specials are killah: $4 Double Wells. It’s also happening from 9pm to 3am so the under 21 year olds can pop in after 2am.

3) Meanwhile, “Pridol” aka Seattle Pride’s annual singing competition, PRIDE IDOL is bopping over to West Seattle’s OUTWEST for tonight’s penultimate competition (my pretentious way of saying there’s only one more round, this coming Sunday, May 25th back at Neighbours) before heading into the Wild Card Round on Sunday, June 1 and the Finals on June 8.

Pride Idol host OLIVIA LAGARCE had this comment about tonight’s gig in WeSea:

Time to get pretty pretty for Pride Idol at OutWest Bar in West Seattle! Signups start at 6:30 as usual, and show is at 8. Come out and see me and Isabella Extynn St James cohosting AGAIN, because I know you’re not sick of the two of us yet! (Right? …RIGHT??) No cover, cheap drinks, fabu entertainment, and lots of prizes to be won!

We’re not sure how dear Olivia will get anywhere CLOSE to being “pretty” by the 8 pm show but we have our fingers crossed she’ll at least muster up enough make-up to make it all bearable!!!

Bless her.

Enjoy ALL your activities and events on this lovely Spring evening!
