Frankly, it seems like an odd match, but queerdisco superstar Amanda Lepore will be headlining the 2012 Cuff Complex Street Party/Beer Garden on Sunday, June 24 from Noon to 8pm. Joining the voluptuous Queen of New York Nightlife will be DJ James Anthony (NYC) and singer Kaci Battaglia. And, it’s all hosted by SoFonda Peters and Alota Miles, (and to be honest, I have NO idea who these queens are…)
Model. Muse. Performance Artist. Singer. Actress. Transgender Icon. Amanda Lepore has done it all, in a relatively short period of time, and her curvaceously enhanced charms and Barbie Doll figure are instantly recognizable to anyone who’s glanced at a one of photographer David LaChapelle’s coffee table art books, or checked out a video with her frequent collaborator, gay rap artist Cazwell. (Gee, you frequently see Cazwell and Amanda working together…I wonder where Cazwell will be on Pride Sunday in Seattle….????)
We’re thrilled that Ms Lepore is coming to town but we still think she’s an odd choice for The Cuff…they usually go with a one hit, aging disco diva from a decade or two in the past. Is this all part of an effort on The Cuff’s part to “youthen” their fanbase and compete with other queer venues in town? If so, it’s a smart move…AND, don’t forget that The Cuff’s new Sunday night party, “Bottom 40” will be having a special Pride Day show inside The Cuff, with special guest dj’s In Flagranti (UK) and Edgar Um (PA).
The Cuff will also have special guests the entire weekend. DJ Dana Dub will be in the house on Friday, June 22nd starting at 10pm, and on Saturday the 23rd, DJ Paul Goodyear up from SFO will be packing the dance floor from 10pm to 3am.
You should start resting up NOW…next month will be be cray-cray…
