Don’t Frock It Up!: SGS Exclusive with RuPaul Drag Race’s Phoenix

January 22, 2011• bySeattle Gay Scene

Phoenix says, "Don’t believe everything you see on television."

Phoenix is one of the fabulous contestants on Logo’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, Season Three. She is the seventh to be interviewed in this season’s Drag Race with more interviews to come! Stay tuned for upcoming interviews with the other contestants. And, don’t forget RuPaul’s Drag Race Season Three premieres Monday, January 24 on the Logo Channel AND you can watch it at Lobby Bar every week with hostesses Glamazonia and Lily Armani on hand, offering a wealth of drink specials from the fine folks at Lobby, the official RuPaul’s Drag Race viewing party in Seattle. Now, let’s hear what our contestant has to say…Werk it, Phoenix!

Phoenix, where are you from?
Atlanta, Georgia.

When was your first time in drag and what did it feel like?
My first time was about ten years ago. I felt like I was the deal, and you could not tell me a thing, but, oh boy, was I wrong!

What a mess, but you gotta start somewhere.

What makes you continue to perform and represent your community as a drag queen?
I continue to perform because it’s my art form, my passion and one of my loves.  I really do enjoy it and have invested so much time, energy, and MONEY in it.

What was your first reaction when you heard the news on becoming a RPDR contestant?
What a huge sigh of relief! The whole audition process was so lengthy and stressful, but, Oh My God, I was so freakin’ excited!

How much tension was there in the hotel during the shooting of the show and were fremenies made?
There was some tension in the room for sure, but I probably “ruffled a few feathers.” I am kind of an honest person, so when people hear the truth and it’s not the response they want, they get a little upset.

When I first got there, “I have enough friends back in Atlanta. If I make some here, great, if I don’t great also great”.  There were a few people that I really did enjoy being around and I look forward to working together in the future.

If you learned something from this show, what would that be?
I have learned from being on the show to don’t believe everything you see on TV.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you absolutely need with you in order to survive?
I hate this question because it stresses me out…

I know: a satellite TV with a lifetime battery, a lifetime supply of vodka and my favorite Adam Killian adult film. Sounds like a party!

Pick one – Lady Gaga or Cher?
How dare you even make me choose between the two!
