Yes, we’ve been very quiet for the last few weeks (our apologies) but Mr. Strangeways had to MOVE to new digs so life has been COMPLICATED and while we’ve been busy packing up our porn and award winning collection of apple head dolls, there’s been a lot of news just percolating along and it’s all ready to BLOW UP and we’re now ready to serve you up a steaming cup of hot news….starting with:
Sylvia O’Stayformore’s beloved monthly variety show, BACON STRIP is making its second move within the last couple months…and, it’s moving to The Grill on Broadway.
Bacon Strip, the raunchy monthly funfest featuring mouthy drag queens, randy boylesque stars, outrageous music and comedy numbers, and a salty side of real bacon got its start at Re-bar where it ran continuously for 8 years until January of this year when the show decamped for its new Capitol Hill-centric location at Chop Suey. Sadly, that partnership didn’t work out (uh, creative differences?) and Bacon Strip was in need of a new home. There’s not a lot of options for ribald stage shows featuring men dressed as hookers and hookers dressed as men…due to the horrifying gentrification of Capitol Hill, there are fewer and fewer venues for such shows. Happily, The Grill on Broadway is offering up a new locale at their Atrium Theater, currently the home of the popular Sunday drag brunch, “Mimosas with Mama” starring Mama Tits as well as its popular Karaoke Night on Mondays and the weekly Open Mic night on Tuesdays.
Bacon Strip will debut at The Grill on March 23rd for a special “Best of Bacon Strip Party” featuring some beloved hits from the past from some of Bacon Strip’s most beloved stars…we’re guessing you can expect numbers from Mizz Honey Bucket, Cherry Sur Bete, The Darlings, Otter Pop and many others. Then, on April 13th, “The 3rd Annual Miss Bacon Strip Pageant” will be held where reigning Bacon Queen Ho Mo Arigato will give up her title to the next lovely princess worthy of the pork filled crown. (More info soon about Miss Bacon Strip 2013 including info on how to enter!) The first Miss Bacon Strip, Miss Jinkx Monsoon has made rather a name for herself of late….will future Miss BS’s be as lucky?
Regular monthly productions will resume on May 11, 2013 and continue on the second Saturday of the month (with their announced monthly themes) with the show starting at 10:30pm. Advance tickets will be available through Brown Paper Tickets and keep your eyes peeled for more info to come at SGS and at the websites/Facebook pages for The Grill on Broadway and Bacon Strip. Bacon Strip is a 21+ show so leave the kiddies at home…
Obviously, this will be a big change for Bacon Strip…both for the cast and fans. It’s a terrific opportunity for the show to be exposed to a new audience in its central new location and for fans, it’s a return to having seating as opposed to the standing room only policy at Chop Suey. There’s also the advantage of food for folks who require snacks during the show, AND, the Grill be be providing the free Bacon distributed during the show, so it will be a tastier bacon option than before.
And, for folks who are worried that Bacon Strip will have to clean up “its act” because it’s in a restaurant, rest assured that the Grill team fully supports Sylvia and Company in their effort to be entertainingly offensive. Dildo costumes, filthy jokes and questionable production numbers involving pedophile Santas, horny nuns, bisexual androids raping barnyard animals, and the eating of raw eggs will be strongly encouraged.
