Well, there’s been a lot of gossip, bitching, rumor mongering, complaining, kvetching, whining and yet more gossip and bitching but the truth has been finally been revealed: Seattle Red Dress Party WILL take place this year!
But, not until July 20, 2013.
The popular fundraiser for local AIDS/HIV non-profits has had an irregular schedule during its brief lifetime but most people were convinced it would go on as announced last year, the Saturday after Valentine’s Day. But the Red Dress Party website promised that info about the 2013 event would be posted on its website last fall but nothing ever appeared and people began whispering…”Red Dress is not happening; it’s dead” and, “It is happening, and in February but new people are taking over” and, “Gay City is taking it over” and, “It’s definitely happening at The Social” and, “It’s happening at Q” and, ” Cyndi Lauper/Cher/The Go-Go’s and/or Bette Midler will be performing” and so on and so on.
Well, as much as we can figure out, SOME of those rumors were sorta/kinda/partly true in one degree or another but apparently all the caca is done hitting the fan and the folks actually taking over Red Dress told me that the party will happen, once again at Fremont Studios, but the date will now be July 20, 2013. Here’s the release:

Sincerely…Your SRDP Steering Committee
So, there you have it…you have five additional months to come up with a kickass red dress outfit!
Now, when we heard about the proposed July date a few weeks ago, we have to point out we did advise the Steering Committee that July is a tricky month to schedule…some folks are pooped out and poor after Pride celebrations at the end of June and many folks head out of town in late July. Our advice to them was: Get a BIG headliner to keep folks in town. Deborah Cox was lovely last year but they need a bigger name than that to keep people from heading to the islands or the nearest beach.
Hopefully, they’ll come up with a headliner that will dazzle us all.
(And, a “RuPaul Drag Race” star or a minor league disco diva with a #47 dance chart hit from 1993 is not gonna cut it…)
