Fun Things To Do That Don’t Involve Booze & Glitter: LGBTQ Book Clubs

Two Boys Kissing

Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan

There are many Seattle area book clubs for our LGBT community. Everyone is welcome at any of these clubs. To join, simply visit the site to find out what book they are reading this month, read the book, and show up to discuss it.

Also, if it’s your first time, feel free to attend a meeting even if you haven’t read the book. That will give you a chance to meet the people in the club and find out what next month’s book is.

BETWEEN THE COVERS, the Gay City LGBT Library book club, is an informal group of queer folks talking about queer literature that meets monthly on the second Saturday. Join us every month to talk about your favorite books, what you’re currently reading, or what you’d like to read! Our goal is to provide a space for queer readers with a common interest in reading to share their knowledge and opinions. Next Meeting: Saturday, November 8, 2014, 1 p.m. at GayCity (517 E Pike St, Seattle), reading The Revolution of Little Girls by Blanche Mcrary Boyd. MORE INFO

THE SEATTLE LESBIAN LITERATURE MEETUP GROUP Meet other fans of Lesbian Literature here in Seattle. Chat about books while meeting fellow queer ladies who like to read and socialize. You can jump in and join anytime! Next Meeting: Saturday, November 8, 2014, 3 p.m. at GayCity (517 E Pike St, Seattle), reading Pregnant Butch: Nine Long Months Spent in Drag, the graphic novel memoir by A. K. Summers. MORE INFO

THE SEATTLE GAY AND LESBIAN BOOK CLUB Meets at SASG on Capital Hill (previously Dunshee House) every Wednesday at 6 p.m. We read one book each month and discuss that book all month. Some members come every Wednesday; some join us once or twice a month. For busy people, four opportunities means not having to worry about missing out! And spreading the discussion over a month allows us to approach topical questions in depth, for readers to dive back into the text and explore thoughts different from their own. Current Meetings: October 22 and 29, 2014, 6 p.m. at SASG (303 17th Ave E, Seattle), reading The Life to Come by E. M. Forster. MORE INFO

TACOMA LGBTQ BOOK CLUB Join us reading both fiction and nonfiction! The book club is open to everyone. books available for purchase at King’s Books in Tacoma. We meet the second Saturday of every month. Next Meeting: Saturday, November 8, 2014, 2:00 p.m. at the Oasis and Tacoma Rainbow Center (2215 Pacific Ave, Tacoma) reading Orlando: A Biography by Virginia Woolf. MORE INFO

RAINBOW READS (KITSAP) We are a Kitsap based LGBTQ book discussion group, focusing on books with queer themes and/or by queer authors. Each year we read a mix of books with gay, lesbian, and transgender themes including fiction, non-fiction, and young adult. We meet the last Thursday of every month. Next Meeting: Thursday, October 30, 2014, 6:00 p.m. at the Poulsbo Library (700 NE Lincoln Rd, Poulsbo) reading Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan. MORE INFO
